Description

"The Study of Exceptional Talent (SET)is a project of the Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth (CTY), that identifies students throughout the U.S. who exhibit extraordinary mathematical or verbal reasoning ability by performing exceptionally well on the SAT I before the age of 13."

SET is an outgrowth of the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth (SMPY) at Johns Hopkins University which pioneered the concept of above- grade-level testing of middle school students, using the SAT to identify exceptionally talented mathematical reasoners, then offering academic summer programs for students who exhibit exceptional reasoning ability.

Our child has only minimally participated in what SET offers students since he qualified (mostly just reads the magazine and some of the e mail), but it was definitely an ego boost for him when he did so. More important to me, though, is the value of SET to us as parents-we've talked to the SET office periodically over the past few years, even before our child qualified, and they have always attempted to help us. They've provided advice, networking information and general hand holding. Nothing earth shattering, but it is always nice to have another resource.
