Description

"Set in the small Southern town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the Depression, To Kill a Mockingbird follows three years in the life of 8-year-old Scout Finch, her brother, Jem, and their father, Atticus--three years punctuated by the arrest and eventual trial of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. Though her story explores big themes, Harper Lee chooses to tell it through the eyes of a child. The result is a tough and tender novel of race, class, justice, and the pain of growing up."

I think this novel is one that is "forced" upon most adolescents at some point in their school life. I am no exception! However, unlike some of the literature that was required of me to read, I found this a touching and thought provoking story and comment on life. I would recommend it to young readers.

Mature themes in language suitable for young adults. This is a very well written, thought provoking coming of age novel. I gave it to my 11 year old as antidote to all the science fiction he was reading. I think it's difficult to find good fiction that isn't insipid for his age group. He found it quite readable.

I love this book! I think Atticus is the nicest man that ever lived, and he has very good views on how the world works.
