Description

Beyond Five in a Row contains literature unit studies for ages 8 to 12. Chapter books, rather than picture books, are used, but families of profoundly gifted children will probably wish to use these unit studies before age 8 (they may begin anytime the child is ready to read chapter books). Literature selected includes such children's classics as The Cricket in Times Square, Homer Price, The Boxcar Children, and Sarah Plain and Tall. Instructions for the homeschooling parent and interdisciplinary hands-on activities are included.

The same caveat that applies to the original "Five in a Row" applies to "Beyond Five in a Row" -- it can be a very effective, enjoyable integrated literature curriculum for profoundly gifted children as long as it is used for profoundly gifted children much younger than the suggested age (8 to 12). "Beyond Five in a Row" provides good literature and interdisciplinary related activities; schools, homeschools, and families of profoundly gifted children will want to use this program with children between the ages of 4 and 7, however, not the suggested 8 to 12.
