Description

This website is one of the best resources on the Internet for those who are using a challenging classical homeschooling approach with their children. Included are numerous articles describing the stages of classical education and curriculum suggestions for each stage; an online catalog providing easy links for ordering classical homeschooling curriculum materials; a frequently-asked questions section; a large collection of internet curriculum links; an art history index; a very helpful page of Latin curriculum reviews that will help a family or school choose an appropriate Latin program for a particular child; a classical educator's support group loop; and many other materials and information. This is a Christian website but much of the material is easily adaptable to a secular approach to classical education.

This website should be a first stop for any family considering the classical education approach to homeschooling. Many families of profoundly gifted children choose this approach because their children naturally gravitate toward the subject areas and the challenging books and approach, anyway. Christine Miller has compiled an enormous amount of information about the classical education approach. The curriculum links, especially, will be useful to any family with a profoundly gifted child who enjoys classical readings and a classical approach to history and language instruction, regardless of whether they attend public, private, or home school. I often recommend the Latin curriculum reviews page to many families who are homeschooling or afterschooling profoundly gifted children, to assist them in choosing the appropriate Latin curriculum for their particular child's learning style, and for their own (or a tutor's) preferred teaching style. This is a top-notch site!!

This is a very interesting site, and I highly recommend it to first-time homeschoolers or those considering the classical or eclectical approach. The information could be useful to other homeschoolers as well. The author has separated homeschooling into three stages: the grammar stage (grades 1-6), the dialectic stage (grades 7-9), and the rhetoric stage (grades 10-12). Each of these stages is broken down into an overview, subjects, curriculum, and scope & sequence. The author has some amazingly detailed descriptions within each stage.
