I am a ninth grade student at the Academy, and this is my first year with them. At the beginning of the year I had a conference call with my assigned educational consultant and my parents, where we constructed a plan of study for the year. I was able to complete an entire geometry textbook in four months compared to spending the whole year on it at a traditional school. Also, the Academy accepted credit from courses that I had taken through EPGY and Learninglinks. I am able to take accelerate courses so that I do not become bored with easy material and I am able to tailor the program of study to challenge my strengths and explore my interests. Being home for this past year has opened so many options to me. I am able to devote a significant amount of time to playing the piano and flute and I am becoming more and more involved in my community; something that traditional school left little time for me to accomplish. Also, this year I am taking 2 1/2 weeks off to travel throughout northern Italy. The school was extremely flexible with me on this issue and I am undertaking an independent study course focusing on Ancient Roman Culture and the Renaissance period. I was always very interested in Ancient Rome and now I will be experiencing it firsthand, I could have never done this at a traditional school. Another wonderful benefit of the Academy is the educational consultants. They are extremely helpful and outgoing and are very open-minded. My educational consultant has helped me explore options for early college entrance and other programs that would be of benefit. The major strengths of the school are as follows: flexibility (allowed to take AP courses before eleventh grade), individualized plan of study, and by being at home there is much more free time to devote to your personal interests. I only have a few things to suggest to watch out for when considering the Academy or another school like it. Many of my friends and even relatives have been very bold with their opinions against the type of program that I am pursuing. That is only because most people have problems with things being different and new. If you will be able to deal with this and are highly-motivated, then I enthusiastically recommend the Westbridge Academy as a great school for gifted children.

We have enrolled our children in the Westbridge program and have found it immensely helpful in choosing appropriate curriculum as each course of study is tailored to the individual child's ability and interests. Westbridge also keeps official records and transcripts leaving us free to concentrate on the day-to-day teaching basics. The classical education approach used by Westbridge works well for those wishing a flexible yet structured approach.

Families of profoundly gifted children who wish to homeschool using a classical curriculum will probably be interested in Westbridge. This program was designed from the outset as a school for gifted students, and enrolls students in the moderately to profoundly gifted range. For families who want assistance both in curriculum development and selection and in organizational parameters for the homeschool, Westbridge is an excellent choice. Permanent cumulative school records and transcripts are kept by Westbridge; families agree to supply a detailed quarterly report.
