Description

"During an intense Charleston summer, students with recognized potential are exposed to courses, ideas, and instructors they may have never encountered in their hometowns. They defend, explore, and reconsider their ideas about how the world works. They find kindred souls from throughout the state who also consider these issues in creative, thoughtful ways. Perhaps most importantly, they discover that there remains much to be done in the world and in their own communities."

I was a Guvie in the summer of 2004 at the College of Charleston. I learned a lot, and would definitely recommend it. I found other students there to be very intelligent, motivated and outgoing. The classes were very informative and interactive. There was a range of subjects, covering everything from the Politics of Science Fiction, to Biochemistry, to Computer Science, to Globalization, to Environmental Law. The teachers were helpful and well-informed on their subjects. Many guest speakers and other events helped round out the educational experience. All this, and being able to walk out of your dorm and be in the middle of downtown Charleston with great new friends made the Governor's School a great experience.
