Description

These books contain strong female characters, "girls and women who are creative, capable, articulate and intelligent, solving problems, facing challenges, resolving conflicts and going on quests. This resource book is divided by age group/difficulty level. They are not sidekicks or tokens waiting to be rescued; they are doing the rescuing." Nor are they waiting for a male to provide a happy ending; they are fashioning their own stories and their own endings.

As a resource for parents of profoundly gifted girls, this book is TOPS. The books listed contain strong female characters who model for our brightest girls leadership, daring, strength, intelligence and compassion. I keep this book always on hand to help me and my daughter select books we might enjoy reading together, or for books on a certain subject we might be studying. The over-600 books are each given a brief overview to help parents and children make knowledgeable choices (and to help parents decide if the content is age-appropriate for the child). The subtitle of the book says:"More than 600 books to inspire today's girls and tomorrow's women". My daughter has found much inspiration among the pages of books recommended in this resource! My only regret is that there aren't MORE listed!
