The University of Nebraska Independent Study High School is one of the oldest university-sponsored programs of its kind. It began as a traditional correspondence program, but now also offers a full complement of online high school courses as well. The high school is fully accredited. In recent years, the program has been very welcoming to young, profoundly gifted children who need high school courses at a very early age. In addition, this program has made a great effort recently to reach out to homeschoolers. Although the courses are quite traditional, they offer a solid high school program and would be challenging to young profoundly gifted students who prefer a relatively structured approach. In addition, both the traditional correspondence courses and the online courses provide profoundly gifted students a reasonably-priced acceleration alternative to regular grade-level courses that may be less appropriate for them, in situations where it is not feasible for them to physically attend class on a high school campus.

We have used several of these courses, and found them to be of very high quality. The course we have used are Biology, World Geography, Physical Science, Algebra 1, and Physics. My 9 year old pg child is currently using these courses and my 11 year old also enjoyed them. I like them because they require very little advance preparation and I can be assured that there will be no "gaps".
