Description

D.C. Writers Corp is an organization in Washington, DC that targets middle/junior high school students because research suggests that this is the age where children start to lose interest in school. It is our hope that our presence can help maintain interest and commitment to education. In order to make this happen WritersCorps sends accomplished and well-trained local writers into all twelve DCPS middle/junior high schools to run in-school and after-school creative writing workshops. From these workshops, students participate in local poetry readings and poetry competitions, create their own anthologies and participate in many additional cultural activities connected to the literary arts. Writers Corps mission is to get students reading and writing beyond the classroom, while highlighting their creative and intellectual achievements through public performances.
